Bruegel & Susato at Van Vleck

Picture
A Feast for the Eyes and Ears:
Paintings of Belgian artist Pieter Bruegel accompanied by the dance music of  his contemporary Tielmann Susato, with commentary by Daryl Lancaster, MEM member
January 21, 2018
Van Vleck House & Gardens, Upper Montclair

Bruegel and Susato had some things in common:  Both lived and worked in Antwerp, a gem of city in the early 16th century; and both revered the peasantry. While Susato arranged and printed  the folk songs and dances sung in the taverns, Bruegel captured the merrymakers in his paintings.
