The Musettes - beginning level adult recorder players
This group is geared for adults who want to play music with others in a small group just for fun. The group will meet bi-weekly in Montclair. Call Julienne Pape at 845-943-0610 for time and location. As musicians become more skilled, they may move to the Intermediate to Advanced Performance group (which meets weekly).
Montclair Early Music’s focus is on music before 1800 — beautiful music from the Baroque, Renaissance, and Medieval periods — with an occasional Jazz or modern piece. These sessions offer the perfect opportunity for those who played an instrument in high school and want to play music again. The recorder is easy to learn and comes in various voices —Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass — making it easy to form a consort .
Nightingale Consort - intermediate to advanced players of recorders and other early music instruments
Montclair Early Music’s Nightingale Consort performs several concerts each year, including seasonal celebrations, such as May Day, St. George & the Dragon, Wassail, and themed concerts such as the music of Shakespeare's plays or the melding of art and music (Bruegel and Susato, Rembrandt). These programs offer include singers, actors and/or dancers. Venues have included Montclair Make Music Day, Van Vleck House & Gardens, St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
MEM members have also played for organizations such as the Montclair YMCA seniors and the Memory Cafe in Morris Plains. Several times a year they perform at services at St. Luke's, which graciously hosts weekly practice sessions for the intermediate to advanced group, which currently meets on Thursday evenings. Contact Julienne Pape at 845-943-0610 if you would like to join these practice sessions.
