A Black History Month musical celebration!
Time & Location
Feb 10, 2024, 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM
UUCM, 67 Church St, Montclair, NJ 07042, USA
About the event
Join Montclair Early Music on February 10 for a special musical celebration of Black History Month!
Journey with us as we explore the unique history of spiritual, folk, and jazz through the ages. From the joyous African rhythms to the smooth melodies of modern Jazz.Â
The concert will feature selections by renowned Black Composers and performances by jazz pianist Michael David Cochrane, bass player Michael Logan, tenor soloist Jeremy Watson, and our new Artistic Director Louisa Valentin as soprano soloist.
Proceeds from the concert will benefit Friends of the Howe House, which is a Montclair non-profit organization committed to preserving the historic house of James Howe, a formerly enslaved man who was freed in 1817. As one of the oldest standing buildings owned by an African American, this house tells the story of freedom and slavery, the importance of homeownership, the development of African American communities in the United States, and the role of African Americans in the growth of towns like Montclair, NJ.
Concert begins at 3:00pm and will be held at The Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Montclair.
Support this great cause and join us for an afternoon of music and song!
