PRESS RELEASE: MAKE MUSIC MONTCLAIR 2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MONTCLAIR EARLY MUSIC CELEBRATES THE SUMMER SOLSTICE BY JOINING IN WITH NATIONAL MAKE MUSIC DAY IN MONTCLAIR

MONTCLAIR, New Jersey – June 3, 2024 – Montclair Early Music is proud to join in the Make Music Day festival again this year on the summer solstice. You’re invited to come listen to our small ensemble on Friday, June 21st at 5:30 pm in front of the Java Love on Church Street in downtown Montclair. We’ll play a sampling of dances and songs from the 16th--20th centuries, written or arranged for recorders.

The original Fete De La Musique, was launched 42 years ago in France, timed to the summer solstice (June 21st). Imagined as a day where music would be performed for free on street corners, rooftops, and in parks around each city and village, by amateurs and professionals of all ages.

Four decades later, the festival has spread throughout the world and is now celebrated in more than 1,000 cities in 120 different countries. This year, over 100 U.S. cities, including New York and Philadelphia, have organized nearly 5,000 free concerts.

Please drop by to celebrate the summer solstice and the joy of making music in this unique, international festival.

Montclair Early Music (MEM) is a nonprofit organization of professional musicians and enthusiasts bringing history to life through musical performances and education for people of all ages, incomes, and abilities.

Montclair Early Music’s Make Music Day is made possible, in part, by funds from the Essex County Division of Cultural Affairs, a partner of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
